The Importance of Dietary Fibre

Most of us don't eat enough fibre. We have gone from eating almost 100 grams a day as hunter-gatherers to eating as low as 8-15 grams a day, or even less than that, on a processed food diet. This of course has catastrophic consequences to our health!

Fibre is very important, as it helps to fertilize the good bacteria in our gut, improves our bowel movements, and prevents cancer and heart disease.

It also helps to lose weight, by slowing the rate at which sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream, overall balancing blood sugar and insulin and reducing appetite!

Psyllium husks powder is 100% plant soluble fibre, and could be super useful in weight management. But only for those of us who can commit to drinking the recommended 1.5-2 litres of water each day, to ensure that the fibre moves through the system.

I like to have a large glass of psyllium husks before my occasional indulgence, to provide soluble fibre and slow down the body's breakdown of carbohydrates and the absorption of sugar, helping with blood sugar control.
