Eating Disorders Awareness Week

I'm supporting #EDAW2017 campaign! Find out more https://www.b-eat.co.uk/supp…/eating-disorder-awareness-week

It's Eating Disorders Awareness Week starting today, stressing the importance of Early Intervention. It can be hard to know what to do when someone you care about has an eating disorder, but often friends and family are instrumental in helping people with eating disorders get into treatment.

The subject of eating disorders is very dear to my heart, as I was battling anorexia nervosa through my teenage years and early 20s. Once I survived a whole month eating only apples and drinking milk... other months I used to religiously count calories, so I wouldn't exceed 350 kcal daily... not eating at all, and then digging food out of a trash bin... hiding food... using laxatives... exercising excessively... I've done it all. I always felt cold and miserable. Back then I didn't know that what was happening to me is a mental illness, and it requires help from a psychiatrist.

It took me years to start eating normally and to realise how important nutrition is, that healthy diet should be based on eating whole, real foods, and not counting calories. I found out that eating uprocessed, unrefined, chemical-free foods is all I need to keep my weight at normal level. I just wished that the scar that I was left with, wasn't that painful.... Sending my love to all ED warriors out there 💗 💗 💗
