Supporting the immune system is critical to good health, as the immune system protects the body against infection. It is estimated that healthy adults get an average of two colds per year, while children can get many more. Since there is no cure for the common cold, the best approach is prevention.
It involves a comprehensive approach, including lifestyle, stress management, exercise, diet and nutritional supplementation. There really isn’t any single magic bullet…
Eat a rainbow - 7 a day (5 veg and 2 fruit). Choose different colours and eat locally and seasonally.
Limit sugar and refined grains (like pasta and bread) -> instead go for whole grains such as wild and brown rice, whole oats and quinoa.
Avoid margarines and trans fats and focus on healthy fats -> coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, seeds and avocados.
Include adequate but not excessive amounts of protein.
Drink six to eight 8-fl.-oz glasses of water per day (or herbal teas).
Have a positive mental attitude. Employ the healing power of the mind!
Take a good high-potency multivitamin and mineral supplement.
Keep moving and stay active. Use the stairs, walk whenever you can. Follow a regular exercise program.
Introduce daily deep breathing and relaxation exercises, such as meditation.
Sleep 7-9 hours per night, ideally starting before midnight.
